review_Death Race

Death Race is an interesting one. Its obviously not supposed to be taken seriously or they would put Tyrese in it. But it is a jonty romp with guns and driving, Its the kind of movie they made car noises to when coming up with the script, and halfway through they hulted the writing production so they could all go out and get hotweels and GI joes.

But how fun, having armoured hotweels and GI joe Jason Stateham's. So im gna have to give this one two ratings: one for how i feel and the other for how much worth it has as a movie. (not in dollars)

Also you should watch this, Its not badly done but it was a paycheck movie aimed at an incredibly wide audiance so it doesnt directly apeal to you or anyone for than matter, as if your constantly thinking " I get it but Id get it more if i were gangster, or a motor head, or have been to prison." So it wont be staring at you, yes you from across the ball room floor making sensual signals to meet it in the bathroom, but you can still apreciate it.

My skewed opinion = 2
Actual rating = 1

review_There Will Be Blood

Movie was an experience. Not sure how to describe it but some could say it was bad, some could say it was good. Very long and (by Hollywood standards) unsatisfying but you cant help walking away with a feeling you've glimpsed into some lost chapters of a mans life, Its almost painfully real.

My consensus is WATCH THIS whether you like it love it or hate it you'll feel like you've seen something unwitnesed in a long time.

NEW SYSTEM, Ive decided to give movies a score now. unlike normal reviews however its going to be 1 to 3

1 is bad 2 is watchable but in my opinion not the best leaving 3 to be the best, either for uniqueness or overall quality.

There Will Be Blood = 2

Mirrors Edge

After months of waiting I finally got my hands on this game. It is good. I was expecting great. While I love certain elements of the game, the visual style, the soundtrack and the parts of the game where you actually get to run, there are parts that frustrate the hell out of me. While combat is annoying, I think that with practice I can master the controls and dispatch the police more easily. The most annoying thing for me is the constant stop start feeling in regard to game play. One minute your running for your life over rooftops, the next your stuck trying to jump up a crappy ledge in a warehouse. It sucks, and I hate it. As much as I love this game, I have to agree with The Sand People (as much as I don't want to ), it feels like part of a bigger game, not a game in itself. Having said that, I very much enjoy it, I think it has definite replay value and I can't wait to clock it so I can play again with a better understanding of the controls and environments.

6 out of 10.

review_ In Bruges

Pretty cool movie in all accounts.

If you had to classify this movie I'd say its a comedy, but after seeing it you know that to broadly classify it doesn't do it justice. It covers far more emotions that tugging the corners of your mouth into a smile (although it does that well).

It is in fact a little bit deeper than your average comedy, and it also delivers on what i can only describe as a slickness to its presence.

At first I wasn't too sure how to feel about this movie. It baffled be when I was laughing when in most movies i should have been the mans version of crying (anger?) .

All in all this movie felt like a fresh breeze, It wasnt your average slapstick romp and felt new and clean compared to most comedys these days.

So I like!

review In The Name Of The King

Last night i saw this movie.... where to begin.

OK the casting. With ever Ewe Boll movie your always looking to be surprised by who he managed to trick ( like a god damn forest sprite) into his movies. This time its Jason Stathams turn. Along for the ride of shame is Ray liotta and Burt Reynolds!

Every now and then an actor has to do something they're not proud of to keep the rent paid... and not everyone can be a prostitute.

So the story is a confusing ride, its a turbulent mess of colourful accents spanning from all corners of the globe; for example Jason has his patented British accent while his apparent son has suburban American, and ol Burt hes just doing his thing regal or not.

I don't know why it was so confusing, It wasn't exactly rocket science but somehow you felt like you couldn't commit, like your brain could be doing better things than trying to follow an estranged German's interpretation of a game he's never played.
But in all things the movies not obviously bad, there's no definitive reason why your feeling sorely tested to keep your eyes and ears open. So its not even that craptacular, it fails in all regards, its only just below the OK mark so its not that funny either. It seems to have no one thing wrong with it you can pin point but thousands of things "just missing the mark". Like every atom in the movie was lightly tinged with failure.. not enough to see what it is but you know its there.

So another thing to notice in the movies arsenal of illusive flaws was the fact that many things were stolen from other movies. So what heaps of movies do that right? Not like this they don't. All the parts stolen are cobbled together in a rickety road of Fuckupery.

The grand battle scene was probably the most mentally taxing part in the movie. It was 20 minutes of brawling. Sounds cool right? Well its not. The battle just didn't really have a point, it was just rabble fighting... for 20 minutes

And when the credits finally roll as if to explain the reason why; the words " A Ewe Boll Film" Fade onto the screen. Thanks Ewe for your celebration of nothing spectacular in any regard.

review ; Dead Rising

Since playing this game I new it inevitable that I review it.. And I've been dreading it. Why the mass of our dedicated readers will ask no doubt and my only reply is; I just do aright.

To begin this game is a must play, so if you contemplating renting it do so.. go ahead, I'll wait.

So lets get down to the grit & shit of it shall we. Its very fun for the first hour or so because you can just kill zombies in a mall with an assortment of items (anything you can pick up ((except for food))) but I've long learned that there's more to games than stabbing zombies in the head with a shower nozzle and watching blood poor out, no its gotta have more because (believe it or not) that does get boring after a few hundred goes.

So how does the game fair after you get bored of mindless killing while wearing the stupidest costume imaginable? It fairs only OK in my book.

Starting with what I liked.

I like the fact that you can start again with your level, something about that is comforting allowing you to really explore and get creative, if you screw up the worst is you start from day 1 in the game with your full level.

I liked how the game was indeed challenging (though annoying at first) when you finally beat those god damn bastards on the hummer or This motherfucker you'll feel like you really acheived something.

What I didn't like

The controls are literally retarded, they didn't think about it really and I found myself craving resident evil 4.

You can find yourself trapped in a cycle of doom when fighting pretty much most of the bosses so you just watch yourself get hit, fall down, begin getting up and before you get control back from the standing up animation you get hit back down again... very annoying.

Sometimes your destined to fail, You'll receive a mission with no timer so you take a few minutes to get food and weapons, maybe some Xbox achievements and complete said mission with ease,, only to discover the next mission will happen at say for example 11 am which you can easily have missed. Only thing to do now is start again or go through the shame of ending b!

One small thing that got my goat was the fact that every second person in that mall was a psycopath, little unlikely but ill cope.

In a complete 180 what first appealed to you for that couple of hours at the start beings to bug you; the makers of the game in a bid to make sure you used a variety of weapons force you to change weapon every 5 minutes via the weapon breaking, this means you end up fighting zombies with weapons than only frustrate you to no end. Like empty cardboard boxes... unless you triple stack the mini chainsaw (which you get from that motherfucker) which is good for a kill mileage of 1000

To close things up I definitely recommend playing this game. It has at least 3 days of pure entertainment before you've decided you've done all its offering. Its strong point is definitely the variety of weapons and sand box like freedom (plus gore.. sooo much ), the story however isn't so fun especially when you have to replay it over and over. I wouldn't suggest buying it unless its the only way your gna get to play it, rent it or borrow or steal, make buying your last resort, But in ANY CASE make sure you play it.

The Forbidden Kingdom

Saw this film in the cinema during the weekend. My verdict 5/10, I didn't much care for it.

Un-Explainable

Look up un-explainable on google and you get this...

http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/1538/unexplainableyk1.jpg

(copy and paste link)

but this image isn't unexplainable, this dude is a male stripper who likes to play football during the day...hes strolling down main street in his clogs and comes across a riot...there you go. Google lied. I am angry about this.

9.11 Memorial

review; 30 Days Of Night

Ok so this movies a bit old. "But why are you reviewing it?" People may ask, to which I reply a stern fuck you.

This movie had its ups and downs, saying i watched it in two parts it seems to be i watched two very different movies; One good and one bad.

But if i think of it as a whole the bad overpowers the good so i have to say its a bad movie. Because its a bad movie I will start with the good parts.

Its a survival horror... I like survival horrors for some reason.

The vampire thingys are actually freakishly scary though they border line on retarded .

Alrighty now onto the things that werent so good.

Josh Heartnett is Josh Heartnett and will always be Josh Heartnett (not that hes a bad actor i just dont think hes a very diverse one)

One of the first things you get hit with when the movie opens up is relationship troubles.. i personally dont find myself connecting to characters through their relationship troubles, that just made me not care.

They tried to go for this "Its scary coz you can just see them" aproach. They took too far, Its not scary when a roudy pipeline worker gets snatched into the darkness by what seems to be "some guy" theres no mystery in that. Then you marvel at why the other characters arent running away coz some dude just grabbed their friend.

In final I wanna rap this up with the worst thing about this movie, i just couldnt get over the fact that in 30 Days Of Night there is not night, it should be called 30 Days Of Overcast. The whole time its suposed to be night, even when the lights go off you can still see very clearly all thats different is the sky is greyish black.

Pandora Battery

As some of you know, I fucked up my PSP a while back trying to install the 1.5 firmware kernel into 3.90 m-33 ( in laymans terms, I messed up BIG time ). So for the last month or so, I've been staring morosly at my very expensive paperweight, wishing and praying that someone had a homebrew enabled PSP with which I could create a Pandora's battery. I got impatient a bought one the other day, and all going to plan, tomorrow I will be using my PSP once again.

Which brings me to my next point: so what? I barely used my PSP when I had it, and enjoyed modding it far more than any of the games I played. Hopefully that will be remedied with Crisis Core ( among others ) but I doubt it will hold any appeal after I've clocked it. The problem is, the PSP is a fantastic hand-held console, but the games side of things is a real letdown.

To me though, worse than the dismal array of games ( there are some good ones, but thy're few and far between ) is Sonys incompetence. There are things that the PSP homebwerw community has developed that if implemented into official firmware, would make the PSP a far more powerful competitor to Nintendo's DS and other handhelds, which still has a strangelhold on the handheld market.

I could go on for hours, but I'll leave it at that.

3d of 3d? The future of 3d??

The short answer is "No", which coincidentally is also the long answer.
Wearing 3d glasses while operating a 3d package (by which I mean computer software; stop giggling!), is silly and will lead to permenant eye damage probably.
While colours seem brighter and more "in your face", and the sensation of being in your scene is pretty wild, it is no substitute for good old fashioned Seeing what you're doing.
So the next time one of the Cool kids comes around and says "Hey, wear these glasses while doing 3d and you'll be as cool as me and my friend(s)", take the glasses and wear them for a bit, because 3d is pretty neat, but then take them off because it's only interesting for about 10 minutes, and you look like a noddy.
So, there you have it. Pointless? You bet!

preReview_01

Crisis Core is awesome, I like it so far, enough to spend sleepless hours through the night fusing materia... if you like Final Fantasy VII the mere thought that you could create new and unseen (by your eye) materia would bar you from sleep too.

Thumbs up so far

Helmet WIP

heres a helmet im designing for a kids show called Angel Wars. Still work in progress.

MaximumAdaption_01

Wowie Max Payne is coming to the big screen!

I just hope they dont drop the ball on this one, although from the track record of video game movies the ball is more like a soaped up rabbid cat, which explains why they dropped it so much.

Trailer looks sweet though.

*ps we also got a new flat; Awsomed day! by any standards*

Just like to add...

..this movie to "The sand peoples" previous post. This movie is sooo craptacular, that the entertainment value is just as magical as the dog in the film.

forTheFuture_01

Little heads up (i really got nuthn to post today) I am a massive fan of a new genre of movies called "Craptacular", its pretty much movies that outright suck but still entertain.

Whos pioneering the way for craptacular you ask?
Well none other than Mr Boll himself. Well not really its just that all his movies fit into this genre, have to admire the dedication.

Alot of people hate him but I don't, its like hating a kid for being retarded. I'm sure its not his fault.

Anyways the best craptacular movie of all time so far is most definitly Double Team starring Van Damme ( a veteran of craptacular) and the star of the freakshow itself Dennis Rodman. Watch and enjoy.. oh and its not a dirty movie it just sounds like one.

And if your wondering "how do i know if its craptacular?" a safe bet is anything with "Vandamage" on the cover.

This was another mind blowing post about nothing by theSandPeople

GTA IV

I bought this game, along with my very first Xbox 360, roughly two months ago. I have only ever played the GTA series on PC before this and was very interested at how the game handled on it's intended system ( a console ). I was very impressed with the new engine, the cars handle realistically, the city is expansive and immersive and the characters are interesting and with the new facial animation, they can be charismatic ( or repugnant ) according to the designers wishes, something that was lacking in GTA San Andreas ( where the characters wore stiff, unmovable masks, their cold dead eyes staring blankly past you. )

The only issue I had with the game was the cover and auto-aiming systems. There are other issues, collision detection, camera angles, but these are common problems that many, MANY games have, and I don't want to simply point out the obvious. These two systems are the only thing about this game that pissed me off. While the other problems are an inconvinience, this is a fucking knife in the eye, and everytime you use it, it gets pushed a little deeper. Every damn time Niko is killed because an enemy is right next to you and all you can do is slooowly slide across the wall, desperatley trying to break free of the cover systems evil tendrils, or you lock onto a civillian on the other side of the street while a gangster stands right in front of you, a piece of me dies.

While these problems are infuriating, by no means do they spoil the overall game experience. This game has a fantastic storyline, intruiging and in-depth characters, engaging missions and a new video engine make GTA IV a must play for any fan of the GTA series, just good luck with the cover and auto-aim ( manual aim works a dream ).

Photoshop Goodness

..Dont ask me why....

Kane and Lynch Movie Coming!!!

A film adaptation is in the works from Lionsgate. The script was written by Kyle Ward who also penned the upcoming film Fiasco Heights which is being produced by Platinum Dunes for Universal. Bruce Willis is in final negotations to play as Kane in the film as of June 2008, with filming scheduled to begin later this year.[10]Simon Crane, a stunt coordinator on films including Stardust, Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Troy, will make his directorial debut. (wiki)

Just a quick post.

I own a PSP, but I've never really had much use for it..until now!

A prequel to FF7? Can it be? Square-Enix declares it is so, the prophecy hs been fulfilled! The game that consumed me as a child has reurned to consume me as an adult. With a new battle system and the return of materia, it promises not to dissappoint, but to add another chapter to the already fantastically in-depth Final Fantasy series.

coolies; Song Summoner

This is an SquareEnix game called Song Summoner and it looks pretty sweet although a little novel. Basically an iPod exclusive game that has the same battle system as ff tactics but your characters are created from songs on your iPod. This little wee game even has a story arc in wich to try and immerse you.

Theres an apeal to me that i can be leveling up my character/songs by listening to it at work, it makes grinding that much more tolerable... but to think about it, how many songs will you ruin for yourself in an attempt to get strong characters. Ahwell I still want to play it.

Alrighty im all done here so BYEE.

Oh yeh and it can be played on the nano too.

zipAttack

So the studio that Calem and myself are at did another kids show called zip and mac and its airing on TV (NZ) now.

Of coarse if anyone's seen it or even heard it they can understand why listening to the voice acting repetitively would drive an animator insane. So here's my spirit lifter.

Concept Art (SpaceShips)

I've been working on a CG kids show called "Angel Wars" (look it up on google) They have me working on misc props and what not. This is what I've been doing today.

*P.s: These are quick color sketches!!!! high res images look scruffy:p

book review; The Magician

This isnt so much a review, its more me just telling everyone I Like Magician. So naturally if I like it you have to read it so you can say you like it so you can be just like me. Let me just say that as afraid I am of evil twins and the such, I wouldnt mind another me.

But if your me then you already know that a time will come, a
time when i will fight me to my death.

Until then.

But yeh the books good.

Battlefield Bad Company Review

Now I loooooved BF2 and BF2142 was even better,

Bad Company puts the player in a fictional war against the Russian Federation, where players will lead a squad of AWOL soldiers fighting both Russians and mercenaries.

Bad Company applies some new features to the franchise, including an environment that can be almost entirely destroyed,[7] and a single-player storyline. The single player campaign and some multiplayer maps take place in the fictional Eastern European country of Serdaristan, Russia, and an unnamed fictional Middle Eastern country.

BadCompany
is on another level. The only thing they got wrong on this game was the name...they should have called it "Battlefield F*ck Yeah!!!" Nothing is more satisfying than blowing up and entire town with air strikes and I'm not exaggerating. The destructible environments took me back to the days of "Black" for ps2 but BadCompany has redefined itself in true BF style.

Mission are long with expansive environments . The game has tonnes of replay value as well as a wicked multiplayer set up. Don't get me started on the fire sticks and vehicles (you can drive a golf cart) This game delivers on thrills and spills...it gets a 9 out of 10 from me. BUY IT ..NOW!!!!!

ARE YOU MOTIVATED!!!!

I'm Speechless...

Review; Hancock

So Hancock. If you haven't seen the trailers I'll explain the basic groove to the movie: What if, now stay with me, what if a whino/ hobo (so in effect a whibo) had super powers... just imagine.

So the stage is set. Let the Hilarity ensue, and to that aspect the movie definitely delivers.
It is funny and entertaining and maybe even worth my 15 (nz) dollars and 40 (similar) cents, however the movie veers away midway through to a more "epic" mood and though it still has some funny moments they're too few and spaced too far apart.

On The epic side of things the movie has some major CG effects with hulk like breakage and high tension flight fights, the movie also delivers this quite well. So comedy good and epic good it must be a great movie then, you must be saying! Well wrong, although its quite a good watch when walking out of the cinema you cant escape the feeling the could have done a lot better with such an open and fun idea, it feels like a lot got lost in translation, the main bad guy is hardly even mentioned and I think its implied that he knows about the whole superpower secret, I'm not too sure what was happening with that guy the movie leaves that very unclear. Also what I assume to be the main twist is more a fact to be calmly stated than a shocking reveal and if you've seen the trailer (depending on which) you probably already know the twist you just don't know it yet.

Well to sum it up if you have 2 hours to blow along with a enough green for a ticket then definitely go see it, it has its classic superWhibo moments, but that is if you don't want to see Iron Man, Speed Racers, KungFu Panda, Indanna Jones, Wallee or Wanted.

Well that's all from me..
Until I write again.
